My 26th birthday was just a few days ago… How the years went by so fast – Though I’m not overly fond of the fact that I am getting older. The realization that I’m closer to 30 than I am to 20 has me a little bit freaked out.
Though nonetheless, I’m excited to be 26 now and proud of what i have learnt and of my accomplishments, and am happy at where I am with the friends and family around me. Though there is definitely a lot more than 26 things, 26 in 26 sounds a bit more cutesy.
– Good Manners are one of the biggest assets someone could have, people wouldn’t really verbally compliment you on that, but they would always have a positive image of you in their mind.
– Let go of what does not serve you or what does not want to stick around. As hard as it is to let go, there’s something better waiting, you wouldn’t want to waste your energy and time. You’ll never find out what’s next if you don’t let go of what’s holding you back.
– Don’t let the small things get to you. Don’t overthink and ponder and react to the little things, because they really don’t even matter. Put your focus on the bigger picture. This will save you a lot of stressful thinking.
– Learn to love and accept every rejection. For every ‘no’ means you’re one step closer to the next yes. Learn from why it has been rejected and figure out whether or not you would have to adjust,
– Surround yourself with people that love you and want you to be happy. Heard of the saying ‘you’re the average of the 5 people you hang out with?’. Don’t hang out with the bad influencers and the ones that are miserable and want you to be miserable too.
– When people are hating, mocking, teasing, or talk bad about you, it’s 99.9% of the time because of jealousy. Don’t let it affect you – be humble. Because maybe you are the only person that actually pays attention to them.
– Make a do-to list for the week or even on the daily. The satisfaction of crossing it off and completing your goals and tasks is an awesome feeling.
– Live in the moment – Slow down and take a breather from time to time. Take time to enjoy what’s happening right now, you will never be happy if you’re always looking ahead for the next thing coming, you may not get another chance.
– You will never know if you need to meet the person behind you at the station or grocery store if you don’t interact and take a minute to talk to them. Paths cross for a reason, it’s up to you to notice and act on it. Don’t rely too much on fate.
– Finding your passion is important. My passion was in digital 2 years ago and it really drove the direction of my life – and i’m more than happy with that decision. Maybe you already know what your passion is, maybe you don’t. Do yourself a favor and figure it out, it will change everything.
– Bad things happen to good and kind people. This cannot be changed and is not the will of God. What can be changed is the attitude in which you face and conquer the trial at hand.
– Hangovers are not fun and games. Make sure to drink at least 2 cups of water before bed. The water might not totally prevent it but it will help. I swear.
– I’m actually allergic to the words “Anyone could do that!”. No, no they can’t. It takes dedication and commitment for people to accumulate certain skill sets – yes some things are easier than others but those that look down on others or think that the work is worth no value should be more grateful.
– Don’t regret eating that extra pizza slice. Enjoy it. Savour it. And probably grab another one.
– Drinking with friends is never a bad idea – so long as it is not a night before an important day or work! Though it is fun at times, try not to risk it.
– Your dream job is probably nothing like what you imagined when you were a kid, in highschool or even in college. Just enjoy doing what you do.
– Learning how to home cook and bake is a skill set and talent that is becoming rarer byt the year. Learn it, master it. Well at least the basics. It could also save you loads of money.
– Your priorities will change with every new event and as time goes by – make sure you are flexible and can adapt to the changes.
– Loving people for just who they are instead of wishing they were different can help you love and appreciate them more than you thought you could.
– There’s always room for a cheeseboard at a party.
– Your parents are always looking out for your best interest – don’t be angry at them. They are cooler the older you get.
– Sadly, your metabolism would probably never be as fast as you want it to be. Enjoy the food – but be prepared to work it off.
– Things are just that, and they can be taken from you or lose value in an instant. But places, experiences, and memories will last you a lifetime and can be shared with the people you love most – make sure to take photos to remind you of those moments.
– The power of forgiveness is truly astounding. What you can overcome by learning to forgive and saying ‘sorry’ is incredible. It could break down walls and build bonds once again.
– Don’t try to change someone and don’t let someone try to change you.
– Don’t wait for opportunities to come to you or let fear hold you back. Go out, seek them, create them, work for it, and find ways to reach for everything you’ve ever dreamed about. Whatever you do, either do it with all your efforts, or not at all.
That’s it from me – this is what i come to learn and cherish, used as a guideline so that i can reflect and make sure that i won’t make the same mistake or ponder too much about things. Any other notable pointers you guys have?
